El Dorado Hills - Homes & News - DeeDee Riley Realtor: Folsom Lake Revealed

Folsom Lake Revealed

Folsom Lake is a prominent feature of our area.  Every year we see the water level drop as summer wears on until seasonal rains and snowfall refill it.  This year we see much more of Folsom Lake Revealed by the incredibly low water levels.  My husband and I can see the lake from our back yard but today took a walk down into the area and what is usually covered with water.

Granite Bay is across the lake and the dam is in the center on the horizon.

This is looking toward the Summit and Southpointe.  If you look hard in the middle of the picture you can see the masts of sail boats at the marina and the Brown's Ravine boat launch.

Here are a couple pictures of Folsom Lake in Summer 2011.

Before the lake was formed there use to be a community called Mormon Island.  Today we could see roads and reminents of the pre-lake area.  Here is a link to more information on Mormon Island and what existed here before Folsom Lake.

Though it is interesting to see Folsom Lake Revealed, I prefer how we've become accustomed to seeing it... blue!

I agree that the lake was prettier when you could sail a boat on it. Nothing stays the same and obviously you are experiencing some very dry times. I'll send our next snow storm your way as you can certainly use it. I've already had my share of snow this winter DeeDee!!

Thanks Janis!  I've seen and heard how you have had your fair share back east.  We tend to worry about our rainfall numbers regularly but especially in late spring because we know what's coming - our hot dry summers.

DeeDee - Loved seeing all of the photos on Folsom Lake.  I hope we get more snow so all of our lakes can fill up again!

Hi DeeDee! Great photos of your spellbound Folsum Lake. Will share some of our 2014 rain with you. The filled lake is lovely, but in another way, so is knowing about Mormon Island.

DeeDee,

Your photos look great!  It looks like you had fun taking them.  Hopefully, your lake will fill up again soon.  Have a fantastic 2014!

Looks like a scene from some of our lakes when we went through a drought.

I am sure you guys will recover and it will go back to normal

Thanks Laura, Jane, Andrew, and David.  It's sad to see but I know it is not forever, luckily!  It looks so much bigger walking around there than it does seeing it from a boat.

Happy New Years to you all!

Hello DeeDee and is Folsum Lake a reservoir? Does it have fish in it? Is there any vacant land priced right around it?

Wonderful photos and Featured at the group:
