El Dorado Hills - Homes & News - DeeDee Riley Realtor: Beware of Teaser Links!

Beware of Teaser Links!

Beware of Teaser Links

A couple months ago I made a the mistake of clicking on a link on Facebook and want to warn you: Beware of Teaser Links!  An incredible interest rate on morgages based on the Obama's Making Home Affordable Act caught my attention.  I thought it sounded too good to be Beware of Teaser Links true but wanted to see know more in case I could share the information with clients and friends.

I clicked on the link and it started down a line of questions.  When they asked for a social security number, I knew it was not going to be good so I aborted the process.

Having entered my phone number though was already a huge mistake.  For the first couple days afterward, we got 10 calls a day from lenders wanting to help me with my refinance.  The number of calls dwindled down but two months later, we are still getting at least 1-2 calls per day.

I should know this being a Realtor, as we have companies constantly calling to sell us leads.  They get these leads in this same fashion and then sell them to us.  In this case, I'm sure they sold them to lenders.

My advise if you see a tempting link like this, would be to search for the terminology that tempted you by yourself.  If you have to enter your phone number or email to get the answers you want, you may end up unsuspectingly being a lead like I was! Beware of Teaser Links!

If you need a lender, ask a Realtor you trust.  If you need a Realtor in an area outside of your own, still ask a Realtor you trust if they can refer you to someone. I've found there's a lot more accountability that comes with referrals.

DeeDee, I am paranoid about any link these days.  There is so much garbage out there. Emails come in by the hundreds each day ... another product or deal to sell to those who don't want or need it. It is so frustrating!

DeeDee - Great advice for everyone to be aware of - beware of teaser links they can do more harm than good!

DeeDee, I've fallen victim to these in the past and it's definitely not a fun experience. As tempting as it looks I refuse to click on any of these nowadays even if they may be real because the alternative would be an annoying loss of time. Thanks for the heads up though, especially if they're trying new ways to entice into clicking on these links.

DeeDee I'm so glad I'm not the only who has clicked these links so I could help my clients.  Thanks for the reminder.
