Home is Where the Heart Is - El Dorado Hills
It may mean something totally different for you but for me home is where I'm free to be me - in my pajamas or sweats, singing out loud, with or without makeup. Home is where my dog is and most of the time, my wonderful husband as well. Home is where my kids come to visit me. Home is where I find peace, joy and laughter, sometimes sadness, always safety. Home is like an old friend. Home is where the heart is!
As a Realtor, I help people buy houses and sell homes. On the buying end, my goal is to help clients find a house that they can be at home in. It is always an exciting process as together we find a house that meets their needs. The selling end is much more difficult because of what the sellers have vested while they've lived there. Sometimes it’s not easy hearing things that will be needed to get their homes sold as it is not just a house to them, it is their home.
I lived in Rough and Ready CA while growing up, Chico CA while in college, Redmond WA for the first 12 years of my marriage. With every move there has been a melancholy feel as I was happy to move on to the next venture but sad to leave my home. There were different things about each place that made that home feeling so strong.
My home now is in El Dorado Hills and has been since 1996. El Dorado Hills sits at the beginning of the foothills, to the east of Sacramento. Because of our hills, we are lucky to have views in every direction -the Sierra Mountains, the Sacramento Valley, and Folsom Lake - just to name a few.
We moved to our current house in 2004. Previously, we lived just 3/4 of a mile away and watched the neighborhood develop from a rolling hill speckled with Oak trees to a community of about 250 semi-custom homes. As the building progressed up the hill in different tiers, we became more and more interested in the views. We would take walks there during the day and talk about what we could see in the distance or drive up at night and marvel at the lights across the valley. It was during one of those memorizing moments that we decided we wanted a home where we could look out at any given moment and see those views.
We moved in on the 4th of July that year with an abundance to celebrate! Over the next few years we added our front and back landscapes, a pool/spa, and a covered patio off the back of the house. It's still an evolving project but is the best part of this home as the time spent here with our beautiful views gets us away from all the distractions of everyday life and lets us focus on simpler pleasures. Every day as the sun sets, we stop what we are doing to go out and take it in. We eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner out under the covered patio whenever possible. We sit out and gaze at the twinkly lights across the valley on warm nights. We solve problems from here and make plans for our life.
Who knows, the day may come when we have to say goodbye to this home and this place as well but for now it’s certainly where my heart is and it’s in El Dorado Hills.
