El Dorado Hills Weather - Hot Summers, Snow Today!

Snow in El Dorado Hills - December 7, 2009

El Dorado Hills definitely experiences all four seasons as far as weather goes. This morning I woke to snow which we only see here every few years. Since I'm not a weather person, I'll try and explain in resident terminology what you can expect here.

In the spring we can count on rain and because of the Delta with its cool moist air, fog.  The temperatures can be in the 40’s and 50’s many of the days depending on the cloud cover.

Come summer our El Dorado Hills weather turns hot and dry throughout the days and except for a few nights cools in the evening.  During those days our temperatures can range from the high 80’s to around 106 degrees with the night time temperatures dropping to the 70’s, (a perfect temperature in my mind). Three or four nights per year our night time temperatures will remain in the 80’s causing our air conditioners to run on overtime.

Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year for El Dorado Hills residents both in the beautiful colors we see and the warm but not too warm temperatures day and night. Our daytime temperatures are usually in the 70”s and maybe low 80’s. Nighttime temperatures start to get a little cooler, the 60’s.

View of Valley and Folsom LakeWinter is usually cold and rainy,  cold and clear, or cold and foggy.  When I say cold, I’m sure people from Tahoe (an hour and a half away), the east coast, and other much colder areas of the country laugh, but it is cold compared to what we are use to.  And when I say foggy, I mean soupy fog and it can last a couple weeks, usually in January. (Gives us all something to complain about but compared to the rest of the beautiful weather we are fortunate to have, it's nothing.) Our winter temperatures in El Dorado Hills typically are in the 30’s and 40’s but can drop down into the 20’s on occasion. Today we have snow!!! Three inches at the top of some of our hills and just an inch or so down towards Folsom Lake.

Experiencing the four seasons, with all their variety and beauty is one of the things that make living in El Dorado Hills so special.

Read about our best season in my opinion on my post: Best Season for the Sierra Foothill Region.
